What time do I need to arrive? Due to our early starting times and subsequent road closures, you will need to be in the starting area by 7:00 am for the Youth Mile Run and the 5K events. For those running the 10K, it is advised to be there by 7:15 am since the other events will be nearing their start times and the roads will be closed.
Will there be portable toilets available? Yes, since we have an early start and most downtown establishments will be closed, there will be portable toilets available within one block of the starting areas. Location is on E. Broad St. near the corner of S. Main St. (toward the new Greenville News Building). How do the starting waves work for the 10K? In order to facilitate the flow of runners immediately after the start is sounded, there will be a minimum of five waves of runners, staggered with one-minute intervals. Runners will be assigned to a wave and appropriate coral by their estimated time of finish during the registration process. The race is chip timed so each individual's correct time will be calculated from crossing the start and finish mats. While overall top ten men's and women's awards will be determined by gun time, age-group awards will be determined by chip time. Runners who desire to run with friends may move back to a later corral, but runners may not move to a lower seeded corral.
Is the course hilly? This is downtown Greenville, so yes, there are hills. This year's 10K route is described as "rolling" with one major downhill on East Washington St., heading toward Cleveland Park. The major uphill climb is after crossing the Cancer Survivor's Bridge on the Swamp Rabbit Trail and entering Falls Park. The hill is on Furman College Way and climbs to University Ave and then a little more to Augusta St. After turning right onto Augusta it is flat or downhill as you run down S. Main Street to the finish on the bridge crossing the Reedy River.
Will there be fluids available on the course? Yes, there will be water available at each of the Hydration Stations, including the starting area, three on the 10K course, 2 on the 5K course (almost same route as last 5K of 10k) and at the finish area.
Why are strollers prohibited in the 5K? While we love children, pushing them up the hills may become a hinderance to other participants. Although the 5K starts before the 10K, the fastest 10K runners will probably catch some of the 5K runners on the final hills and those pushing strollers would possibly be in the way of those runners. We will allow push-strollers in the 10K, but they must start in the fifth or final wave of participants. Those not adhering to this request will be removed from the course.
Where can I put my warmup gear before the race? Fleet Feet Sports will be the "official" bag transporter and will provide plastic bags for runners to put warmups in before the race start. Those bags may be retrieved at the Fleet Feet Sports tent in the Peace Center Plaza r. The gear check will open at 6:45 am on Saturday morning. You must use the clear plastic bag you received at packet pickup to place your belongings and have your name on the bag in the provided area. Please do no leave valuables as the event organizers and Fleet Feet cannot take responsibility for their return.
Where is the best place to stay for out-of-town participants? Downtown Greenville has multiple hotels within walking distance of the race start and finish. We recommend using online sources to find the best deal.
Where is the post-race Festival? Once your run is finished, you can rehydrate, refuel, relax and enjoy the morning at Plaza in front of the Peace Center. The finish line is located approximately 100 meters from the plaza in front of the Peace Center.
