The 40th running of the TD Bank Reedy River Run 10K will start and finish at two of Greenville's historic points. The start is in Court Square by the statue of Joel Poinsett. Among his many positions and responsibilities he was a physician, statesman and botanist. He is accredited for importing the poinsettia plant from Mexico. He also served as the US Secretary of War for President Martin Van Buren.
The finish line is located on the historic Thomas C. Gower bridge which crosses the Reedy River. Gower was the mayor of Greenville in 1870-71 and was responsible for building the first bridge across the river during his leadership. He was also the chairman of the city's first school board and a proponent for public education. The current bridge was renovated in 2001.
In remembrance of the first Reedy River Run 10K this year's course will once again include running on the paths next to the Reedy River as it flows through beautiful Cleveland Park.
