The 42nd TD Bank Reedy River Run 10K will once again include an "elite" group of competitors for the race through downtown Greenville on Saturday, April 20, 2019. Race director Mike Caldwell announced some of those runners including 2017 South Carolina Runner of the Year Ricky Flynn. Flynn previously qualified for the 2012 and 2016 USATF Olympic Trials in the marathon. He has consistently placed among the top ten in previous TD Bank Reedy River Runs, finishing 3rd (2014), 4th ('16), 6th ('17) and 3rd in 2018.
He will be joined by Greenville's Cole Atkins, who recently ran a qualifying time for the 2020 USATF Olympic Trails Marathon and placed 5th last year at TD Bank Reedy River Run. Also entered are ASICS Greenville Track Club-ELITE's Eddie Garcia, Victor Pataky and Joe Niemiec. Garcia finished close behind Atkins in January's Chevron Houston Marathon and also ran a Olympic Trials qualifying time. Niemiec won the Greenville News Run Downtown in his first and only race since moving to Greenville.
The prize purse of $10,000 for USA Citizens includes a prize of $1,000 to the male and female winners with money ten deep if the athlete runs under the performance time standard of 32:30 for men and 37:30 for women. Athletes eligible to receive prize money must have a current USATF membership number and be subject to USATF rules regarding Performance Enhancing Drugs.
Stay tuned for announcements regarding the women's elite field in the coming weeks.
