Over the coming days we will preview the 42nd TD Bank Reedy River Run. Today we have six questions for Greenville's Joe Niemiec, who will return to the streets of downtown Greenville after winning the Greenville News Run Downtown 5K in January. Joe recently relocated to Greenville from Michigan (in October) to join the ASICS Greenville Track Club-ELITE post collegiate, Olympic-development program.
How many years have you been running and why did you start?
Running has always been apart of my life to some extent. When I was a kid it was part of our chores to run anywhere from 1-3 miles every weekday. I hated it and often tried to find ways to get out of doing it. I ran xc for the first time as a sophomore in high school in 2008. Again I still didn’t love doing it and didn’t really apply myself. I just had a bit of natural speed that made me faster then most people. It wasn’t till I broke my leg during senior year in 2010 that I realized I had a gift that I was wasting. So I’ll call 2010 when I really started running. And my why for running has changed through seasons in my life, but ultimately I want maximize the gifts that I’ve been given and show that even post college and post marriage and post 3 kids you can still chase running dreams!
What is your favorite running experience?
Crossing the finish line of any race knowing you just got a pr. Beating your best is the best!
Where is your favorite venue to run locally?
Swamp Rabbit Trail. I mean is there really any other answer?
Have you run TD Bank Reedy River Run previously?I have only been in Greenville 4 months so I have not done this race before.
What is your favorite part of the course?
I’ve heard there are hills and I like hills so I’ll I say my favorite part of the course is the biggest hill. (I’m probably going to regret saying this)
Why are your running the TD Bank Reedy River Run?
It’ll be my first race after our new baby in February so I’m just looking to go as fast as I can and enjoy another race in downtown Greenville.
